Why the seat was open

The canvass followed the appointment of Midlothian Supervisor Tara Carroll and preceded a special election to determine who would fulfill the remainder of former Supervisor Leslie Haley's term, which expired December 31, 2023. Haley had announced that she would assume a position as Deputy Attorney General under the state justice department of Attorney General Jason Miyares. The special election for the Midlothian Supervisor was set for November 8, 2022.
