The MBA's call for comments

Chris Jenkins, the MBA's Director of Community Affairs, raised the case with members on June 15, 2020, as part of a board initiative to improve communication with the business community about new developments and zoning cases. The MBA had previously hosted presentations, held forums and advocated for communication between the county, the business community and local residents.

Members were asked whether they believed the development would benefit Midlothian's businesses — good, bad or indifferent. The routes offered were Chris Jenkins directly, Supervisor Leslie Haley or Planning Commissioner Frank Petroski, the county's comment portal at chesterfield.gov/cpccomments, [email protected] or 804-748-1125, or fellow MBA members.

The virtual community meeting

Because of COVID-19, S.L. Nusbaum held its community meeting as a 15-minute online presentation rather than in person, available to watch through Friday, June 19, 2020. The county's comment period closed at 5 p.m. on July 20, 2020; in a second email that day the MBA noted comments meant for the Planning Commission were best sent to the county directly. The July 21 meeting itself ran under modified COVID-19 procedures, with the public encouraged to comment ahead of time.
