Two of the five seats on the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors sit in the MBA's footprint. On November 5, 2019, both were on the ballot, and they produced very different nights.
Midlothian District
Candidate | Party | Votes | Share |
|---|---|---|---|
Leslie Ann Takacs Haley | Republican | 15,254 | 55.35% |
Javaid Edward Siddiqi | Democratic | 12,225 | 44.36% |
Write-ins | — | 82 | 0.30% |
Total votes cast: 27,561. Margin: 3,029 votes, or 10.99 points.
Haley had first been elected to the seat in 2015. Her re-election in 2019 carried more weight than a district race usually does, because she chaired the Board of Supervisors in both 2019 and 2020 — which means the Midlothian supervisor held the gavel on December 11, 2019, five weeks after this election, when the Board adopted the Midlothian Community Special Area Plan.
She did not serve the full term. Haley resigned effective June 6, 2022 to join the Attorney General's office, which set up the special election covered in its own post.
Clover Hill District
Candidate | Party | Votes | Share |
|---|---|---|---|
Christopher Mark Winslow | Republican | 12,649 | 50.71% |
Debra Darlene Gardner | Democratic | 12,251 | 49.11% |
Write-ins | — | 46 | 0.18% |
Total votes cast: 24,946. Margin: 398 votes, or 1.60 points.
Three hundred and ninety-eight votes out of nearly twenty-five thousand. Winslow, first elected in 2015, held the seat by less than two points — the closest supervisor result in either of these districts in the years this archive covers. He went on to serve as Board vice chair in 2021 and chair in 2022.
The MBA hosts events for Clover Hill as well as Midlothian, and results like this one are the reason turnout in an off-year local election is worth talking about at all: the margin was smaller than the crowd at a good luncheon.
Where the numbers come from
Both tables are the Virginia Department of Elections' official results, cross-checked against the Virginia Public Access Project, which reports identical raw totals.
